Trivandrum (official name thiruvananthapuram) lying on the southwest coast of India, is the capital to the state of Kerala. The city extends from latitude 8°29' N to longitude 76°59' E. The place is well connected to most of the other major cities of India through rail, road, and air network. Thiruvananthapuram is linked by flight to Kochi, Chennai (Madras) and Mumbai (Bombay), international flights are being operated to Colombo, Maldives and Gulf countries. The district is also connected by road and rail with Chennai and Kochi

Many important cultural institutions universities and libraries are located in the Thiruvananthapuram city itself. The museum complex consisting of the art and natural history museums. Art Gallery and the Zoological and Botanical gardens are prominent among them. The complex is situated on a beautifully landscaped 80-acre plot in the heart of the city

Padmanabha Swamy Temple

The presiding deity in the temple is Lord Vishnu in a famous posture called Ananthasayanam in which the Lord is reclining on the serpent Anantha. The city Thiruvananthapuram is named after the deity here. Only Hindus are allowed inside the temple.

Puthenmalika Palace
This palace was built during the time of Travancore Maharaja Swathi Thirunal, a renowned poet and musician. It is situated in the close vicinity of Padmanabhaswamy Temple. Its exquisite carvings in traditional Travancore style made of teak wood and rosewood are of great attraction.

Zoo, Museum and Art Gallery
One among the first zoos in India it has well maintained beautiful sprawling lawns. The Napier museum houses a rare collection of archeological and historic artifacts, bronze idols, ancient ornaments, a temple chariot and ivory carvings. Sree Chithra Art Gallery has a rich collection of paintings of Raja Ravi Varma and Roerich. The copies of painting of the Ajanta, Rajput, Mughal and Tanjore Schools besides some works from China, Tibet and Bali are exhibited here.

Veli Tourist Village
This is a popular picnic spot on Trivandrum where the Veli Lake merges with the Arabian Sea. The garden with exquisite sculptures, floating bridge and boating in the lake are the other attractions here.

Shanghumugham Beach
This beach is adjacent to Thiruvananthapuram International Air port. It is a favourite haunt of sunset watches.

Kovalam Beach
This world famous beach is situated 16 kms away from the city.

Padmanabhapuram Palace
The biggest wooden palace in Asia, it was the erstwhile capital of the kingdom of the Travancore. It is situated in near Thuckalay on the way to Kanyakumari. This is a well preserved wooden palace with extraordinary murals, exquisite floral carvings and the black glossy floorings.

Suchindram Temple
This temple is dedicated to Sthanumalaya (Shiva, Vishnu, Brahma). The 135 feet tall Gopura, 18 feet Hanuman Statue and the musical pillars are of great architectural value.

Kanyakumari (Cape Comorin)
Kanyakumari is the southern most tip of India, also the meeting point of the Indian Ocean, Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. Vivekananda Rock Memorial, 133 feet Thiruvalluvar Statue, Kanyakumari Temple, Gandi Memorial and Kamaraj Memorial are the other attractions. It is the only place in India where sunset and sunrise can be seen from one point.
